Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks: Broadway

Here's what the critics had to say about the performances of Mark and Polly in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. Got any more that I missed? Please e-mail me!

The New York Observer

The main reasons to see it in its present form are called Polly Bergen and Mark Hamill. They are knockouts, dispensing magic in two stylish, high-spirited star turns of vigor, versatility and just the right combination of humor and humanity to make audiences laugh and cry at the same time. You won't find actors of their eminence in summer stock.

The New York Post

Undoubtably the best thing about the evening are the awesomely professional and very pleasing performances by Bergen and Hamill. Hamill, not at all unattractive but garishly abrasive, is oddly delightful.

Talking Broadway

Hamill is unquestionably entertaining.

CT Now

Both actors get to emote, which they do gracefully, without painful histrionics, under Seidelman's decorous direction. [...] Hamill has energy, spark, nice easy timing and a sense of boyish prankishness. And through the magical choreography of Kay Cole, the two move together with sweet synchronicity.

Roberta on the Arts

Ms. Bergen and Mr. Hamill were superbly cast and exuded the charm and feistiness necessary to carry the seven vignettes.

United Press International

[Hamill] gives the role of wise-cracking dance instructor Michael Minetti an angry, astringent edge natural to victims of discrimination and losers in the game of love.

Poughkeepsie Journal

[...] Motor-mouth Michael, hilariously played by Mark Hamill [...]

Theater Scene

[...] Energetically portrayed by Mark Hamill and Polly Bergen, and scripted by Richard Alfieri [..]

Reuters

Under the effective direction of Arthur Allan Seidelman, Bergen and Hamill tear into their parts with gusto. [...] Both hit the requisite comic and emotional marks, ultimately delivering solid and engaging performances.
