Detective Murphy is called to the site of a gruesome murder; a heavily mutilated corpse has been found, eyes ripped out, on the grounds of the city zoo. Scouring the surroundings, Murphy happens over a Golden Retriever who seems to be on his own. Murphy takes the stray dog home, unaware of the fact that he has just stumbled right into a top-secret research project that has gone wrong and set loose a monster, in the truest sense of the word.

The dog, Einstein, has been part of that project, acting as a companion and a scout for the monster that has been developed by the military to bring groundbreaking progress on the battlefield. When the monster escaped and wreaked havoc in the laboratory, Einstein ran away, leading his deadly companion on a wild chase throughout the city.

As Murphy begins to suspect that there's more to the dog and to the lovely veterinary Grace that has contacted him about his case, the Outsider, as the experimental creature has been called, is already hot on the dog's heels - and on his.

With the military having a cruel agenda of their own, he's no longer the hunter, but the prey. Question is whether he can trust the "veterinary", who turns out having been one of the lead scientists on the project. And if he can, what could they do to get the situation back under control?
