'Avenue Q' Premiere Party 2005

Mark:
"Well, I saw it in New York, and was just an immediate fan. I worried they'd never find the cast that could do that, because it's deceptively simple-appearing, but just very skillful, the way the actors – I mean, I'd be doing the interview like this, if I were in Avenue Q. [Mark imitates a puppet's face with his hand] 'Really good to see ya!' and hopefully you'd become famous from the elbow up; and [pointing at his face] nobody looks here; they're all looking right there." [pointing at his hand]

Ken:
You're actually pretty good!

Mark [as puppet]:
"'Why, thank you.' I've always been a fan of puppets and puppetry."

Ken:
"Everyone tonight's been talking about what are their favorite songs, favorite moments; something that really touches them or hits them. Can you think of one offhand?"

Mark:
"Every time you hear the score, you say, 'Oh, this is my favorite, or this is my favorite'. I did that twice tonight, with 'Schadenfreude' – which I'd forgotten about – and what else? I saw it eight months ago in New York - and the other one was 'It's a Fine Line.' You know what's beautiful about the show is the economy of it all. If we were in a deli, there'd be no fat on that sandwich."
